Everything you need to know about creating your life story.
LET'S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING
Why should I bother writing my life story? I haven’t done anything interesting.
I’ve lost count of the number of people who have told me this! But it’s hard to see our own lives from an outsider’s perspective.
I’m constantly amazed by the wonderful stories I hear from clients who think they ‘haven’t done much’ with their lives.
And I can guarantee that your descendants (including those you never meet) will be more interested in the details of your daily life than you realise.
I’d like to write my life story, but I don’t know where to start.
My first piece of advice is to clarify exactly who you’re writing for.
Is it for yourself, friends and family, or your wider community?
This will help you to decide what to include or not include in your story, and how to write about specific events.
Secondly, write a list of key themes or events from your life (up to 20 is ideal) that you want to cover.
Do a quick brainstorm on a big piece of paper.
Once you’ve finished, go through the list and put the themes into the order that you’d like them to appear in your life story. This will give you a chapter outline for your book.
Next, get in touch with me. Together we can work out how to start developing your ideas into a life story that you will be proud of.
Why should I pay you to write my life story? I can do it myself, or my son / daughter / granddaughter / grandson will help me.
Yes, you could write it yourself, but will you?
I say this because I meet many people who are ‘thinking about’ writing their life story, and never quite get around to it.
Our families can be quite busy too. And it’s easy to get halfway through and then give up.
I have the skills and experience to make sure you not only start your life story, but get the jolly thing finished.
And I’m happy to work with you in whatever way you prefer, from helping to publish your book to just providing a few writing tips for your website.
I’ve had some traumatic events in my life, and I don’t know how to write about them.
This is a common experience among my clients. The most important thing is to stay true to yourself.
You are not obligated to write about any particular events or people from your life. It’s your story, and you are in control.
On the other hand, there could be a challenging experience from the past that it could be therapeutic to get down on paper, or that other people might learn from. In that case, I can help you craft the best choice of words that will enable you to be truthful without feeling over-exposed.
How much does it cost?
It really depends on what you want to do, and how you want to do it.

I am open and honest about my pricing, and always happy to provide a detailed quote before we start work on your project.
Can you work remotely?
Absolutely! I am happy to meet with you online via Zoom or Teams to discuss your project, or on a more regular basis.
